While AI poses serious risks like job displacement, mass surveillance, and privacy violations, comparing it to nuclear war is counterproductive. Millions could lose their livelihoods as AI automates jobs, and authoritarian governments could use AI for total surveillance. But these are societal challenges we can address through regulation and adaptation, not extinction-level events. Lumping real, immediate harms together with doomsday scenarios actually makes it harder to tackle the actual problems.
Question 3: I agree with Sam Altman about AI’s existential risks. The technology is advancing so fast that we can’t predict or control where it’s heading. Yes, AI has amazing benefits - medical breakthroughs, educational access, and solving complex problems. But it could also fundamentally change humanity. If we become dependent on AI for all thinking and creativity, we might lose what makes us human. Both the benefits and risks are massive, and that uncertainty itself is terrifying. We’re essentially gambling with humanity’s future.
Question 4: The AI company shouldn’t be held legally responsible for the Belgian man’s death, even though it’s tragic. Where do we draw the line? Should video game companies be sued when someone gets addicted? Should social media be liable for depression? The man was already struggling with mental health issues. While companies should definitely improve their products and add better safeguards, making them legally liable for every user’s actions would basically end innovation. Personal responsibility still exists, even with AI.
